The short version
- There is no advertising or product-behavior analytics in the app or this website.
- You do not need an immerse.school account to use the current app.
- Your settings, learning history, saved conversations, and practice results are kept on your device.
- On supported Apple devices, local AI and speech recognition can run on the device.
- If you choose a cloud AI provider, the text needed for that request is sent to that provider.
- Release builds use an online service to check for compatible app updates.
What stays on your device
The app stores your language pairs, preferences, model choices, recent activity, time spent by language, saved conversations, speaking transcripts and feedback, and translation caches locally. This lets the app remember your place without a central account.
Keys for built-in providers are stored using the device’s secure storage. A key included in a custom API configuration is stored with that configuration in the app’s local data. You can remove providers individually. Clearing settings and cache removes custom API configurations but keeps separately saved provider keys, which can be removed from AI settings.
On iOS, a key in secure storage can survive uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Remove saved provider keys in AI settings before uninstalling if you want them deleted.
Speaking practice
On a supported iPhone, the recording is transcribed using Apple’s on-device speech tools. Preparing a language may require Apple to download speech assets, but the app does not upload the recording for transcription. The temporary audio file is removed after transcription. The transcript and coaching result can remain in local storage so you can review the session.
If you choose a cloud model for speaking feedback, the transcript—not the audio recording—is sent to that selected provider for the feedback request.
When something leaves the device
AI providers
For cloud generation, translation, explanation, or speaking feedback, the app sends the prompt and relevant learning text directly to the cloud AI provider or compatible custom endpoint you select. That service’s own terms and privacy practices apply. Only send material you are comfortable sharing with that provider.
YouTube
When you open a YouTube video, the app contacts YouTube to load the video, its metadata, and available captions. YouTube receives the usual technical information needed to serve that request, such as your IP address and device information. YouTube’s privacy policy applies to that interaction.
App updates
On a cold launch, a release build may contact an app update service to check for and download code and assets compatible with the installed build. The service receives ordinary connection and update details, such as your IP address, platform, runtime version, and update identifiers. These details are used to deliver updates, not for advertising or profiling your learning. The service’s privacy and retention terms apply.
Third-party protection
We only use a service we choose to process personal data when its published terms or our agreement with it require protection at least equivalent to this policy and applicable law. This covers services we choose for hosting, app updates, support email, and any managed AI service we introduce.
A provider account or custom endpoint you add is a service you choose and control. Its own policy governs what it does with a request after receiving it, so review that policy before sending private material. We cannot promise how an independent custom endpoint behaves.
Cloud premium
Managed cloud AI is planned as an optional convenience. If it is introduced, we will explain the provider, information sent, purpose, and retention before you enable it. We will ask before sharing personal data with a third-party AI service and update this policy when the service is available.
This website
The website does not set analytics or advertising cookies and does not ask for personal information. Our hosting provider processes ordinary request data—such as IP address, browser details, requested page, and time—to deliver the site, keep it secure, and operate the network. It may keep technical logs according to its own policies and our hosting settings.
Support email
If you email us, we receive your email address, message, and anything you attach. Our email provider handles the mailbox. We use this information to reply, investigate the issue, and prevent abuse. We keep a support thread while it is useful for those purposes, then delete it. You can ask us to delete it sooner unless an unresolved security issue or legal obligation requires us to keep it.
Retention and deletion
Regular local data stays on your device until you remove it, clear the app’s settings and cache, or uninstall the app. Provider keys saved separately can be removed from AI settings and, on iOS, may otherwise survive an uninstall. Information sent to a provider is retained under that provider’s policy and your account settings with them. Hosting and app update providers keep technical service logs under their policies; support email is kept as described above.
Because the current app has no immerse.school account, we do not keep an account profile to delete. If account or managed-cloud services are added, in-app deletion and its timing will be explained before launch.
Your choices and withdrawing permission
Choosing a cloud model and asking it to do a task instructs the app to send the described content. Granting microphone access lets the app record a speaking attempt. You can change either choice at any time:
- Use supported on-device models and avoid cloud AI.
- Switch each AI task to a local model to stop future cloud requests.
- Remove saved provider keys and custom endpoints in AI settings.
- Clear settings and cached data from the app’s Storage settings.
- Remove microphone access in iOS Settings to prevent new recordings.
- Avoid the video player if you do not want to connect to YouTube.
- Email us to ask for deletion of a support message.
These choices stop future use or sharing. They cannot recall information already sent to an independent provider; contact that provider for its deletion options.
Questions or requests
immerse.school is responsible for this app. Email cookies.in.chocolate@gmail.com if you have a privacy question or need help removing information. We may need enough detail to understand the request, but we will not ask for information we do not need.
